In 1996, Germany, USA, and China jointly launched the International Continental Scientific Drilling Project (ICDP) Since its inception, the project has undertaken nearly a hundred drilling projects. The Songliao Basin is the world’s longest-surviving super-large lake basin, making it ideal for studying the Cretaceous period.
