Four in every five people in Africa are carrying undetected tuberculosis. TB is predominantly transmitted by coughing, but probably also through simply breathing. In many TB control programmes, persistent cough is the primary symptom that sets off the diagnostic process for HIV-negative patients presenting at health facilities.
