Scientists from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney are currently exploring an innovative method to restore sight in people suffering from incurable eye diseases. Their research focuses on implanting tiny solar panels directly into the eyes. They are designed to interact with the nervous system to restore lost functions. Another well-known example is the cochlear implant which stimulates the auditory nerve to improve hearing in people with severe deafness.
