In the last of four articles showcasing their efforts, organic chemist Christina Goudreau Collison at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York describes how working with Deaf students to create clear signs for organic chemistry terms boosted the students’ academic outcomes. The University provides sign-language interpreters for courses, but I recognized how exhausting it was for the students to keep up in my classroom with the time lag that comes with interpreting.
