Archaeological excavations have discovered the remains of the earliest humans on the European continent, dating back 1.4 million years. The image was acquired August 10, 2023, covers an area of 22.6 by 23.7 km, and is located at 37.7 degrees north, 2.5 degrees west. ASTER is one of five Earth-observing instruments launched Dec. 18, 1999, on Terra.
