In a recent study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers report that protein intake from plant sources may improve sleep quality. In contrast, increased animal protein intake worsens sleep quality. An adult requires seven to eight hours of sleep daily to reduce risk of chronic diseases and mortality. Poor diet quality, characterized by a higher intake of saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, and processed foods, can impair sleep quality and duration.
