In 2023, anyone who was on Medicaid was no longer automatically renewed during the Medicaid redetermination process. In reports released, the state chose not to report the number of children disenrolled from Medicaid who still lack coverage. The AJC found that mismanagement, understaffing, and poor administrative execution played a role in the failure to re-enroll Georgians in health coverage.
