Illinois requires schools to allow up to five mental health days per school year to be used as excused absences. The Antioch Group’s Licensed Professional Counselor, Stephanie Seidl, says students need time off whether it’s for catching up on assignments or getting that rest to refresh for the next day. Peoria County Regional School Superintendent Beth Crider says that mental health day is necessary but shouldn’t be abused.
