The Maui mikoshi is a time-honored Japanese tradition, an elaborate portable shrine on two to four poles carried on the shoulders of parade participants. In keeping with this year’s Honolulu Festival theme, “Walk Together with Aloha, Pass the Baton to a Sustainable and Peaceful Future,” the Japanese Club’s design focuses on how all people share each others’ cultures. The front panel illustrates two types of footwear, the Japanese geta and slippers, walking together
