Joyce Edwards is the second South Carolina Gamecock and first girls basketball player from the state to be named Gatorade National Player of Year. Saniya Rivers won the award in 2021 but transferred to NC State. Edwards was one of three finalists for the award with Montverde’s Jaloni Cambridge and Etiwanda’s Kennedy Smith announced on March 14.
