The Defense Department is seeking $17.2 billion to fund its science and technology initiatives in 2025, a 3.4% decrease from last year’s request. The 2025 S&T budget request is 2% of the total budget request at just under $850 billion. That total is only 1% more than the department requested in 2024.

On this two sol-planning day, the Curiosity science team logged in and found ourselves face to face with ‘Pinnacle Ridge’. We saw two types of rocks in our workspace: light-toned layered rocks and darker toned rocks. Rocks that look this different are very exciting to a geologist’s eye – it means the rocks could have been formed in different environments, and could be made of different things.

China's Yellow River Station at Ny-Alesund in Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. In recent years, China has successfully carried out multiple Arctic scientific expeditions using platforms such as the polar icebreakers. Post-pandemic expeditions at the Yellow River station have resumed gradually since last July.
