Ian Kahn, a senior in computer science at UNM, was born and raised in land-locked New Mexico, but he has always had an affinity for water. The New Mexico native said he always enjoyed when his family would vacation in beach locales, scuba diving in places such as Antigua, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. He will do research at the College of Maritime Science in St. Petersburg, Fla., from May 19 to July 26.

Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences Dean Mario Ortiz Retires
Professor A. Serdar Atav, Associate Professor Mary Muscari and Clinical Assistant Professor Rosa Darling retire in September. The three retired in September after a combined 67 years of teaching at Binghamton University. He completed his master’s and doctoral degrees in political science and government. Before that, he obtained bachelor’s degrees in politics and government from Bogaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey.
