Four Virginia Commonwealth University students and two recent alums Honored for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program
Four Virginia Commonwealth University students and two recent alums have been selected for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. The five-year fellowship provides three years of financial support, including an annual stipend of $37,000. Fellows must be pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree at an accredited institution.

The New Hamiltonian-Learning Algorithm
The new result is the fruit of several years’ worth of scientific labor. Prior research by Anshu and others got part of the way there. The approach was not computationally efficient — even though it didn’t require too much data, it still took too long to calculate to be practical. All the existing techniques had failed to work for low temperatures.

Mashell Stott’s multi-faceted project involving milkweed bugs, terrariums, aquariums, and the broader scientific curriculum has the entire sixth-grade class act as scientists from the confines of the classroom. The classroom is a live demonstration of life cycles in action.

Water Ice in the Moon's Polar Craters
Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) found water ice occurrence in moon's polar craters. The study was undertaken by Indian and international space scientists. It indicated that the amount of subsurface ice in first couple of metres is about five to eight times larger than at the surface in both poles.
