Science Journalism - Is Science Rushing?
The WEF meeting took place just a fortnight after Harvard University President Claudine Gay stepped down after complaints were made about her political science scholarship. The spectacle of high-profile scholars correcting and retracting papers has not had a negative impact on public trust in science and perhaps in experts broadly. In recent years we’ve seen important papers written by prominent scientists and published in prestigious journals retracted because of questionable data or methods.

Euclid Spacecraft Embedded in a Dark Universe
Euclid is ESA’s “dark universe detective” and is designed to investigate how dark matter and dark energy made the universe what it is. About 95 per cent of the known universe seems to be made of these enigmas that we know little about. This is a potential problem for highly sensitive mission that requires a lot of precision to investigate the nature of the dark universe.

North Carolina Science Festival - Dueling Dinosaurs
This year’s North Carolina Science Festival has more than 400 events across every county in the state. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the 2020 festival to be canceled, turned the 2021 version into a virtual event and made the 2022 festival much smaller. Dueling Dinosaurs Make Their Debut There were no science festivals 67 million years ago, but in an area that would eventually be called the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, two large dinosaurs squared off.

Predicting the Melting Point
The melting point of a substance is the temperature at which it transitions from a solid phase to a liquid phase under standard atmospheric pressure. Changes in pressure alter the stability of the solid and liquid phases, affecting the melting point. Professor Kostya Trachenko of Queen Mary University of London has solved the big mystery. The pioneering research introduces a universal theory for predicting the melting points of various substances.
