The American Heart Association Distributes $420,000 From its Social Impact Funds
The American Heart Association distributed $420,000 from its Social Impact Funds to three local social enterprises across the Houston metropolitan area as part of its continuing efforts to sustainably address and positively impact social drivers of health. A $1.5 million contribution from the BNSF Railway Foundation supported this first-ever disbursement to local entrepreneurs. Dealing with the death of a loved one is a major stressor which can negatively impact sleep schedules, exercise habits, diet and smoking status – all risk factors for heart disease.

Global Health Security - The US Plan to Double the Number of Countries It Supports to Prevent COVID-19
The US plans to double the number of countries it supports to prevent infectious disease outbreaks, opting for bilateral agreements with at least 100 countries, according to its new Global Health Security Strategy (GHSS) The plan will extend US commitments to an additional 50 countries to help protect themselves against outbreaks and pandemics.

Saskatchewan Health Minister Says No to Travel Costs
Kaitlyn Soron and her husband were at the Legislative Building two weeks ago to ask for help with the travel costs from the health minister, but have now been told “no” The travel and accommodations for the trip are going to cost thousands for the family. The whole reason the Sorons are having to take the more than 2,000-kilometre trip is because they can’t get the health care in Saskatchewan; the health authority and provincial government haven’t been able to hire any of those specialists.

Health and Safety in the North
We have been through a lot in the North over the last few years. Workers have had to risk their health and safety, sometimes daily, because of hazards that were hard to control. The things we saw and experienced as workers are not something any worker should ever have to face. But far from being the exception, dangerous situations on the worksite are quickly becoming a common occurrence. We remember those phone calls with loved ones, where we have trouble talking about our day because we don’t want them to worry about us.

Free Staff Parking at the Sudbury Hospital
In an email to CBC News, Health Sciences North spokesperson Jason Turnbull said parking rates for staff have not increased since 2010. The hospital charges a monthly parking rate of $95 for patients and visitors, but the staff rate is $80 per month. Hourly rates were set at $4 for the first hour, $3 for the second and $2 for the third hour.
