WHO defines a rare disease as an often debilitating lifelong disease or disorder with a prevalence of 1 or less per 1000 population . The National Institutes of Health (ORDI) suggests a disease to be defined as rare if it affects 1 in 5,000 people or less .Approximately 1 in 20 Indians, totalling around 70 million individuals, are impacted by one of these rare diseases .
