New Mexico Man Dies From Plague
A New Mexico man has died from plague in the state's first human fatality since 2020. The man lived in Lincoln County -- located in the southeastern part of the state -- and was hospitalized from the disease before dying. No other identifying information about the man was available, including his name, age or race/ethnicity. Plague is treatable with commonly available antibiotics and the odds of full recovery are higher if a patient seeks medical care early.

Mississippi Will Allow Quicker Medicaid Coverage During Pregnancy
Mississippi Republican Gov. Tate Reeves has signed a new law that will allow women to receive Medicaid coverage earlier in pregnancy. It says Medicaid will pay for a pregnant woman's outpatient medical care for up to 60 days while her application for the government-funded insurance program is being considered. In Mississippi, Medicaid coverage for pregnant women 19 and older is based on income.
