Hannah Wilson received the Excellence in Public Health Service Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The award recognizes medical students’ contributions to public health in their community. She is a program leader for the Medical Enrichment for Diverse Students.

Africa CDC Launches New Mental Health Leadership Programme
Africa CDC launched a new Mental Health Leadership Programme (AMHLP) to address the African population’s mental health challenges. Funded by Wellcome, the programme forms part of the African CDC’s continental strategic priorities on NCDs, Injuries, and Mental health. It also responds to Africa’s New Public Health Order (NPHO) goals. The AMHLP will be based on a specialised curriculum and shaped by insights from people with lived experience.

Gov. Wes Moore and the Maryland General Assembly face a perpetual funding challenge: balancing the budget and managing revenues while meeting numerous needs and providing services. There are only three possible ways to address this: First, cut spending. However, each individual program and project has value, and its advocates would argue that it is worth keeping and/or should be expanded. Further, state money flows to the counties, especially for education.

Long Covid Awareness Day - Ministers to "Change tack"
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde used only about 2% of £595,169. NHS Grampian spend just 13% of £254,842 allocated, while NHS Lothian used £17% of its £372,215. Public health minister Jenni Minto said the Scottish Government takes “long Covid very seriously” and recognises the impact it can have on those affected.

It has been estimated up to 20% of the UK’s adult population doesn’t get enough sleep – typically between seven and nine hours each night. This is more than the combined populations of Bangor, Caernarfon, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Connah’s Quay and Llandudno, not sleeping for long enough on a regular basis.

Health Check - The Independent's expose of sexual abuse in mental health hospitals
Rape Crisis England and Wales has warned that the “alarming” scale of abuse within the UK’s psychiatric system requires “major intervention” from ministers. It comes after an expose by this publication and Sky News revealed almost 20,000 reports of sexual incidents – involving both patients and staff – had been made in more than half of NHS mental health trusts in the past five years.
