Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services confirms 2 cases in geese last fall. Ptarmigans do not pose a strong risk of transmission, the health board said. avian flu primarily affects birds, but can spread to mammals, including marine mammals.

Canada's Drug Decriminalization Exemption 'Tooth and Nail'
B.C. Premier David Eby is asking the federal government to modify its Criminal Code exemption for simple drug possession so police can intervene in instances of public drug use. The goal, according to Eby, is that police would encourage people not to use drugs in public, potentially seize the drugs and arrest people only “when necessary” The goal is to try and help people get assistance without fear of arrest.

Penn State Health has stopped performing liver transplants at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The suspension does not affect the hospital’s other transplant programs. VA Expands CHAMPVA Coverage
VA will soon expand coverage for medical services, including mental health care, for family members and primary family caregivers participating in the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA). Starting at the end of May, these beneficiaries will have new coverage for audio-only telehealth, extended mental healthcare and contraceptive services. This includes care provided through CHAMPVA to eligible family members, caregivers of Veterans, said VA Under Secretary for Health Shereef Elnahal.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst hosted a series of “Green” events in April to highlight the hospital’s commitment to energy conservation and environmental stewardship. These included community outreach activities, a virtual and in-person conference called “Decarb the OR” on greening operating rooms and reducing medical waste. National study led by researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and The University of New Mexico (UNM) Comprehensive Cancer Center found major gaps in breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening use in FQHCs in the U.S. The findings highlight an urgent need to focus on scaling up evidence-based screenings in these populations to mitigate cancer disparities.
