St. Joseph County Health Officer - Diana Purushotam Resigns
Dr. Diana Purushotam has been the health officer here in St. Joseph County since July of last year. The board announced that a personnel committee will be made to help search for a new health officer. There is no timeline for the next hire, but the board is asking for the public’s input and referrals for the new officer.

More than 90% of the country's 13,000 medical interns and residents have been on strike for about a month to protest the government's plan to sharply increase medical school admissions. Globally, data loss has dropped in rank at 3rd place, having ranked 2nd in the previous year. For the first time since 2019, the threat of an organisation being a victim of crime has dropped out of the top seven risks by global directors.

This report presents final 2022 U.S. mortality data on deaths and death rates by demographic and medical characteristics. These data provide information on mortality patterns among U. S. residents by variables such as sex, age, race and Hispanic origin, and cause of death. In 2022, life expectancy increased 1.3 years from 73.5 in 2021 to 74.8 in 2022. The 10 leading causes of infant death accounted for 65.2% of all U.s. infant deaths in 2121.

Building a Sense of Community Can Improve Mental Health
Professor Alex Haslam from UQ's School of Psychology is part of a research team that modeled the effect of social and psychological factors. We found people who live in disadvantaged or resource scarce postcodes have worse mental health than those in advantaged or resource abundant neighborhoods. The research found people tend to have greater resilience when they feel part of the community, which can prevent symptoms of depression.

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) says loneliness might be just as bad for you as being obese or smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and is significantly worse for your mental health. It conducted a survey at the end of 2023 and found that 30 percent of adults reported feeling lonely at least once a week.
