Amherst BBAAA Press Conference
The Black Business Association of the Amherst Area (BBAAA) held a press conference on Friday, March 22, 2024. The BBAAA called for the resignation of Town Manager Paul Bockelman asserting that the absence of any ARPA funds for Black-owned businesses is illegal, and an injustice. It noted that $300,000 of the previous round of ARPS funds were given to a new, white-owned business in town.

Stevens Point to Increase Tax Incremental District Limits
Gov. Tony Evers has signed a bill allowing Stevens Point to increase the limitations for tax incremental district or TID 14 to attract more businesses to come to the East Park Commerce Center. The state allows no more than 12% of a municipality’s value to be in a TID. Mayor Wiza says the city is very close to surpassing that limit and without this legislation’s exemption to go beyond that limit, they would not be able to be as competitive when trying to secure a major agricultural processor.
