The First FDA-Approved Oral Medication to Treat Spinal Muscular Atrophy
SMA is caused by a defect in the survival motor neuron one gene. The most efficient one is called SMN 1 – that’s what’s missing in spinal muscular atrophy,” said Dr. Ann Tilton, a child neurologist at LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. Evrysdi is the first and only oral medication approved by the FDA. Nearly all U.S. states are now screening newborns for SMA.

Huntsville Ice Sports Center Expands
Huntsville’s City Council approved a $1.6 million expansion for the Huntsville Ice Sports Center. The expansion means more parking, a new and improved arena, and dedicated space for the sport of curling. Executive Director of Huntsville Sports Commission Mark Russell said this expansion will provide more room for larger sporting events. Russell said they have plans to host curling competitions and even figure skating.
