Activists Post $50,000 Bond For Hicham Talal
Hicham Talal, 24, defaced a Webster Bank on Jan. 21 during a rally for Palestine. A group of activists called itself the “Connecticut Palestine Solidarity Coalition” protested at courthouse in Hartford on Thursday morning. Police charged Talal with intimidation based on bigotry.

Final Rule Announced Today Expands Telemarketing Fraud Protections to Businesses
The FTC announced in April 2023 that it had implemented Project Point of No Entry (PoNE), targeting “point of entry” or “gateway” Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service providers. The project’s work has continued over the past year and continues to demonstrate its effectiveness by targeting more than two dozen service providers that were involved in millions of illegal robocall campaigns.

ASBTDC is pleased to announce that the U.S. Treasury’s State Small Business Credit Initiative has awarded $2 million to the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center. Through the SSBCI Technical Assistance Grant Program, Treasury allocated $200 million for states, territories, the District of Columbia, and Tribal governments. Arkansas received notice of its TA award in December.

Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Cannot Refuse Assistance to Non-Whites
U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman ruled in favor of a group of White business-owners who sued the Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency. The Agency uses a codified list of preferred races/ethnicities to determine who gets benefits and who doesn’t. Anyone outside those groups — white or otherwise — is presumptively not disadvantaged and thus not entitled to benefits.
